ABOUT ME

I graduated from the University of Winnipeg in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts (English major, Kinesiology and Applied Health minor) and Bachelor of Education degree. Currently, I am completing my Post Baccalaureate in Counselling at the University of Manitoba. I believe in the importance of being a life-long learner, and also understand the importance of modelling this for students.

I began my teaching career in September 2017 at Acadia Junior High School, teaching grade 7 ELA and social studies. Over the past 5 years that I have been working at Acadia Junior High School, I have been very fortunate to gain a significant amount of experience in a variety of grade levels and subjects. In turn, this has allowed me to become a stronger and more well-rounded teacher.

In my time at Acadia Junior High School, I have been a strong and passionate part of school life and the community. I enjoy coaching and planning events such as Mental Wellness Week, Grade 9 Farewell, and Culture Day. This year, I had the opportunity to be one of the founding members of Acadia's Anti-Racism Committee. This included creating weekly lessons for all students in the building to partake in. The goal of this has been to educate both students and staff in this area.

Through my experience, I have learned the benefits of hands-on work and projects for students. When students have voice and choice in their learning, it allows them to demonstrate their understanding in a way that suits them. This produces excellent results as students play to their strengths. I also place great emphasis on building strong relationships with students, which is also beneficial for a conducive learning environment.
